How to prepare for CAT Quants |
|
General Pattern Management entrance tests traditionally have four areas: Maths, English, Comprehension and Reasoning. Some institutes add an additional section on general knowledge or business judgement. The number of sections in which these skill areas are divided, could vary. While earlier there used to be four sections in CAT, today there are three. In one instance, CAT had only two sections with time limits for each section. To avoid being taken by surprise, it is important to do a number of tests on different patterns, within the given time frame. The test is of two hours duration. As nobody can do all the questions in the given time, the candidate must have the ability to pick and choose the questions that must be done. |

Problem Solving - A Test of Managerial Abilities - Part-II Problem: What is the greatest number of regions into which 7 straight lines can divide a plane? Most students will be overjoyed on seeing this kind of a problem in CAT because conceptually it is a very simple problem. No complicated geometry concept; no need to stretch your mind to reason out; just pick up your pencil; draw 7 lines and count the number of regions. Alas, the euphoria is short-lived. Soon they comprehend that while drawing 7 lines is easier but locating their intersections on a sheet of paper is pretty difficult. Few attempts and a few precious minutes later they realize that the problem is not that simple.
